ENG// Eco-System: life, cork, light and water
This installation is a commentary and interpretation of the Alentejo ecosystem, particularly that of the cork oak. It intertwines virgin cork and processed products, creating a sensory encounter. Capsules reveal miniatures with branches, lichens and mosses in harmony. 3D sculptures show the complexity of the ecosystem. Each pod is a guardian of time and aromas, emitting notes of moss and wild flowers that recreate the smells and movements of the forest.
This work is the result of the collaborative practice of Marta de Menezes, Nuno Sousa, Catarina Portugal, Sally Santiago, Anna Isaak-Ross, Diana Mordido Aires and André Araújo.
PT// Ecosistema: vida, cortiça, luz e água
Esta instalação é um comentário e uma interpretação sobre o ecossistema do Alentejo, em especial o do sobreiro. Entrelaça cortiça virgem e produtos transformados, criando um encontro sensorial. Cápsulas revelam miniaturas com ramos, líquenes e musgos em harmonia. Esculturas 3D mostram a complexidade do ecossistema. Cada vagem é guardiã de tempo e aromas, emitindo notas de musgo e flores silvestres que recriam os cheiros e movimentos da floresta.
Este trabalho é o resultado da prática colaborativa de Marta de Menezes, Nuno Sousa, Catarina Portugal, Sally Santiago, Anna Isaak-Ross, Diana
Mordido Aires e André Araújo.

About the Artist
ENG// André Araújo is a musician, visual artist and researcher. His interdisciplinary practice explores the symbolic relationship between memory and place, by a critical, artistic and political sensibility.
Anna Isaak-Ross is a North American artist. Anna’s primary medium is photography and new media, which she explores to carve out identities with light, shadow and form.
Catarina Portugal is an (industrial) designer who explores the multidisciplinarity of ceramics, sculpture, carpentry, metalwork, 3D printing, painting, drawing and sewing. She is studying for a master’s degree in Product Engineering and Design (University of Aveiro).
Diana Mordido Aires is a cultural mediator and artist. She explores the concept of “territory” and “belonging” to foster discourses and dynamics that bring together daily lives to artistic languages.
Marta de Menezes is an artist and curator. She works in the intersection of art and biology, exploring conceptual and aesthetic opportunities offered by biological sciences for visual representations in art.
Nuno Sousa is a visual artist, specialised in modelling and rendering 3D content. He uses digital art to investigate the connection between memories and aesthetic experiences.
Sally Santiago is a Brazilian artist and researcher. Using video, installation and photography, she presents profound reflections on human existence and its connection to its surroundings.
PT// André Araújo é músico, artista visual e investigador. A sua prática interdisciplinar explora as potencialidades simbólicas da relação entre memória e lugar, com uma sensibilidade crítica, artística e política.
Anna Isaak-Ross é uma artista norte-americana. A sua linguagem artística parte maioritariamente da fotografia e dos novos media, que criam, de forma experimental, identidades através da luz, sombra e forma.
Catarina Portugal é designer (industrial) que explora a multidisciplinariedade da cerâmica, escultura, marcenaria, metalurgia, impressão 3D, pintura, desenho e costura. Mestranda de Engenharia e Design de Produto (Universidade de Aveiro).
Diana Mordido Aires é mediadora cultural e artista. Explora o conceito de “território” e “pertença” através de diferentes contextos que fomentam discursos e dinâmicas que (re)aproximam quotidianos e linguagens artísticas.
Marta de Menezes é artista e curadora. Trabalha na intersecção entre arte e biologia, explorando as oportunidades conceptuais e estéticas oferecidas pelas ciências biológicas para a representação visual nas artes.
Nuno Sousa é um artista visual, com especialização em modelação e renderização de conteúdos 3D. Utiliza a arte digital para investigar a ligação entre memórias e experiências estéticas.
Sally Santiago é uma artista e investigadora brasileira. Utilizando o vídeo, a instalação e a fotografia, reflete sobre a existência humana e a sua conexão com o seu redor.
