EN// The international artist Margherita Pevere used the HZI laboratories to examine her own immune cells and create a work of art from the results.
This art project is part of the EU-funded ENLIGHT-TEN+ network (European Network Linking Informatics and Genomics of Helper T cells in Tissues), which is coordinated by Prof Jochen Hühn and educates 15 young scientists at the interface of immunology and big data analysis at academic and non-academic institutions in ten European countries.

Dr Margherita Pevere is an artist and researcher working across bioart and performance with a visceral signature. Her work is a blooming garden crawling with genetically edited bacteria, cells, sex hormones, microbial biofilm, blood, slugs, growing plants and decomposing remains. Her collaboration include the Institute of Experimental Gene Therapy and Cancer Research (U Rostock), Biofilia Laboratory (Aalto U), DZNE (Charité Berlin). She has been shortlisted for the Falling WallsScience Breakthroughs of the Year 2023, category Art and Science.
