PT// O CINEMA FULGOR é um cinema com raízes móveis, itinerante pela constelação espacial do Baixo Alentejo. Cinema composto e semente, pretende participar na construção de uma ruralidade viva e autónoma, convocar e nutrir as diversas e dispersas comunidades, propondo o cinema enquanto experiência comunal e ecológica.

Na sua primeira longa-metragem, lançada em 1977, Alanis Obomsawin homenageia o lugar central das mulheres e das mães nas culturas indígenas. Um álbum da feminilidade indígena, o filme retrata culturas matriarcais orgulhosas que, durante séculos, foram pressionadas a adoptar as normas e os costumes da sociedade dominante. Ao traçar o ciclo de vida das mulheres indígenas desde o nascimento até à infância, puberdade, idade adulta, maturidade e velhice, o filme revela como as mulheres indígenas lutaram para recuperar o sentido de igualdade, incutiram o orgulho cultural nos seus filhos e transmitiram as suas histórias e língua às novas gerações.

Este filme é uma reflexão sobre descendentes e ancestrais, guiada por uma gravação de áudio de 50 anos da minha avó aprendendo a língua pechanga com a sua mãe. Depois da minha mãe me ter dado essa gravação, eu entrevistei-a e gravei as suas reflexões sobre a vida delas e a sua própria. As imagens são da casa que escolhemos no condado de Whatcom, em Washington, onde a minha família ainda vive, longe da nossa terra natal no sul da Califórnia, mas ainda assim um lar.

“MOTHER OF MANY CHILDREN (1977)” by Alanis Obomsawin
In her first feature film, released in 1977, Alanis Obomsawin pays homage to the central place of women and mothers in indigenous cultures. An album of indigenous womanhood, the film portrays proud matriarchal cultures that, for centuries, have been pressured to adopt the norms and customs of dominant society. By tracing the life cycle of indigenous women from birth through childhood, puberty, adulthood, maturity and old age, the film reveals how indigenous women fought to regain a sense of equality, instilled cultural pride in their children and passed on the their stories and language to new generations.

“KICKING THE CLOUDS (2021)” by Sky Hopinka.
This film is a reflection on descendants and ancestors, guided by a 50-year-old audio recording of my grandmother learning the Pechanga language with her mother. After my mother gave me this recording, I interviewed her and recorded her reflections on their lives and her own. The images are of the house we chose in Whatcom County, Washington, where my family still lives, far from our Southern California birthplace, but still home.
