Voices in Education: A Restorative Practices Symposium
ENG// This symposium promotes a space for dialogue and sharing on ways of doing and thinking about informal education contexts, revisiting, with curiosity, the projects developed in/for/with the Odemira region, that seek to get closer to the dynamics of this place and its people.
This initiative is based on an exchange of knowledge about the term “informal education”, with the aim of unravelling it and understanding the different contexts in which it is applied. In order to take a closer look at these details, we have gathered local agents, national voices representing how they are integrated into international projects. With the aim to reflect and discuss what it means to learn directly from others, to foster inclusion, involvement, and co-creation communities.
This exchange of knowledge aims to rethink the coexistence of various cultural agents in the same territory, reinforcing the ability to generate networks in rural contexts and the exchanges of knowledge that take place in these ecosystems.
OBJECTIVES
— Reinforce the production of knowledge, research and experimental dynamics of informal education methodologies;
— Interpretation, communication, and presentation of interdisciplinary artistic practices developed by local cultural organizations;
— Explore cultural projects as forms of access and democratize knowledge;
— Bring together experiences and contextualize them within the informal learning field.

Visit to Centro de Interpretação de Charcos Temporários
with Rota Vicentina (Leonor Pires)
This trail, designed by the League for the Protection of Nature (LPN) as part of the Life Charcos project, combines a beautiful stretch of the Fishermen’s Trail with one of Europe’s most remarkable and unique freshwater habitats, the Mediterranean temporary ponds, which are home to rare and endangered species. This route is representative of the values that led to the creation of a Natural Park and a Natura 2000 site on the south-west coast of Portugal. Some of the most emblematic habitats are crossed, both in the dune scrub and in the wetlands. In spring, you can see almost all the endemic plants of the south-west coast of Portugal just by walking along this stretch of the Rota Vicentina!
DAY 3 | SATURDAY 13th
9h30 – 10 AM
Welcome of the participants
10 AM – 1 PM (Coffee Break 11 – 11h30 AM)
Panel: Include and involve wills
What are the objectives of projects that start from the act of involving? In this panel we try to think about the methodologies of co-production, involvement, listening and inclusion. Assuming the social imbalances that govern the contexts in which we operate, what is the responsibility of cultural agents to create equitable contexts for cultural participation and enjoyment?
- Atlas de Odemira – Lavrar o Mar | casaBranca
- Cinema Fulgor (Sílvia das Fadas)
- Q & A
Moderator: Yvonne Bilimore
LUNCH BREAK at CC 1PM – 2PM
2 – 5 PM (Coffee Break 3 – 3h30 PM)
Round Table: Scales of Action
A round table open to all, as a final moment to bring together the examples and contexts presented, emphasising some of the “good practices” discussed here. What are the common characteristics of these interventions? How can they be designed to take into account the context in which they were developed? We try to understand how these projects intervene on a local, national and international scale, and how they feed into and inform each other.
Moderator: Diana Aires
** Snacks and coffee are going to be available throughout the day
