Tendo como base a obra da artista Marta de Menezes, este workshop pretende explorar as múltiplas possibilidades e abordagens artísticas que podem ser desenvolvidas na relação entre a arte e a biologia, num contexto DIY. Os participantes irão receber indicações para desenvolver, de forma autónoma, diversas experiências e leituras que vão dar lugar a uma discussão sobre questões artísticas, estéticas e éticas. Ao manipular materiais de naturezas diferentes e variadas técnicas, vamos refletir sobre questões teóricas que surgem da interação e colaboração entre artistas e cientistas, como proporcionar informações sobre a diversidade de discursos artísticos que utilizam as ciências biológicas como meio.
Programa
Com o intuito de criar um espaço de conversa e discussão em torno de questões artísticas, estéticas e éticas que resultam da relação entre a arte e a ciência, o objetivo deste workshop é explorar as múltiplas possibilidades de abordagens artísticas provenientes desta relação, num contexto DIY, com diferentes materiais e técnicas.
Os participantes são convidados a desenvolver quatro experiências de forma autónoma, respondendo às diretrizes fornecidas, onde são indicados os materiais, processos e leituras recomendadas para cada uma delas – Decomposition Activity; What are we? (Inside out); What are we? (Microbiome); What are we? (Rocks). Os resultados obtidos serão discutidos e desenvolvidos alguns processos relacionados com a cultura de organismos numa sessão conduzida por Diana Aires, depois de uma apresentação introdutória da artista Marta de Menezes, sobre as relações entre a arte e a biologia, que parte da sua obra.

Description
Based on the work of artist Marta de Menezes, this workshop aims to explore the multiple possibilities and artistic approaches that can be developed in the relationship between art and biology, in a DIY context. Participants will be given instructions for autonomously developing various experiments and readings that will give rise to a discussion on artistic, aesthetic and ethical issues. By manipulating materials of different natures and various techniques, we will reflect on theoretical issues that arise from the interaction and collaboration between artists and scientists, as well as providing information on the diversity of artistic discourses that use biological sciences as a medium.
Programme
With the aim of creating a space for conversation and discussion around the artistic, aesthetic and ethical issues that result from the relationship between art and science, the aim of this workshop is to explore the multiple possibilities of artistic approaches arising from this relationship, in a DIY context, with different materials and techniques.
Participants are invited to develop four experiments independently, responding to the guidelines provided, which indicate the materials, processes and recommended readings for each one – Decomposition Activity; What are we? (Inside out); What are we? (Microbiome); What are we? (Rocks). The results obtained will be discussed and some processes related to the culture of organisms will be developed in a session led by Diana Aires, after an introductory presentation by the artist Marta de Menezes on the relationship between art and biology, based on her work.
