Forest / Glass
Se voltássemos ao final da Idade Média (século X-XVII), às florestas da Europa Central e a Noroeste, iriamos ver o desenvolvimento da manufatura do vidro, em estruturas conhecidas como estufas. O tipo de vidro foi definido pelos ingredientes encontrados na floresta. Os sopradores de vidro desenvolveram um tipo de vidro específico aos ingredientes disponíveis na floresta. Foi feito a partir das cinzas da madeira que foi queimada para aquecer a fornalha. As cinzas eram chamadas de potassa. Elas eram purificadas e misturadas com óxido de cobre, o que dava uma cor esverdeada ao vidro. Espanha, Portugal, França, Alemanha, República Chéca, Holanda, Inglaterra, Suécia fizeram do vidro a sua própria arte, cheia de mistérios, tornando-a num ofício prestigiado. Hoje em dia, o fabrico de vidro não é tão amigo da natureza, mas o vidro da floresta permanece como um símbolo “verde”.
Irina Peleckienė é uma artista que se formou na Vilnius Academy of Arts, Kaunas Faculty of Fine Arts, com especialização em vidro (MA) em 1999. Desde 2009 é membro da Associação de Artistas da Lituânia e desde 2000 organizou 5 exposições individuais.

Forest / Glass
If we went back to late Middle Ages (10th-17th c.) we would see in the north west and central Europe’s forests developed glass manufactures, known as glasshouses. The type of the glass was defined by the ingredients found in the forest. The glassblowers in the forest developed a type of glass specific to the ingredients available in the forest. It was made using the ashes from the wood that was burned to heat the furnace. The ashes were called potash. They were purified and mixed with copper oxide, giving the glass green color. Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, England, Sweden made glass making as their own full of mysteries art which is their most prestigious craft. Nowadays glass making isn’t as much nature friendly but the forest glass remains as “green“ symbol.
Irina Peleckienė is an artist who graduated Vilnius Academy of Arts, Kaunas Faculty of Fine Arts, with a specialty in glass (MA) in 1999. Since 2009 Member of Lithuanian Artists’ Association and since 2000 she has organized 5 solo exhibitions.
