Durante a minha residência na Cultivamos Cultura, tenciono conceber e plantar um novo espaço de cultivo, no local de (e utilizando) uma torre de compostagem de um artista anterior. Espero criar um sítio no qual uma variedade de respostas sensoriais possam ser experimentadas – através da visão, cheiro, sabor, som e toque. Paralelamente, vou pesquisar a ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response – resposta sensorial autónoma dos meridianos) e explorar potenciais estímulos no crescimento e fruição do jardim. Combinarei plantas e árvores existentes na Cultivamos Cultura, juntamente com uma paleta de flores cultivadas a partir de sementes especialmente para o projeto, juntamente com estacas do meu próprio jardim e da área local, e quaisquer objectos de interesse encontrados/arquivados.
Bio
Crystal Mallon Kershaw, nascida em 1982 em Manchester, Reino Unido, é uma artista que vive em SW Alentejo, Portugal, desde 2017. Tem um Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (Camberwell College of Arts, UAL) e uma licenciatura em Literatura Inglesa (Kings College London) e é membro satélite do Ateneu do Catorze, um coletivo de artistas em São Luís, Odemira.
Vivendo em diferentes ambientes naturais, o seu trabalho é guiado pela paisagem local, utilizando frequentemente materiais sazonais de origem botânica, com resultados – frequentemente esculturas ou instalações – essencialmente temporais e experienciais. Desde que renovou o seu próprio terreno em Portugal, o trabalho de Crystal está a mudar cada vez mais para o uso de formas vivas e crescentes usando plantas, explorando a interação entre espaços cultivados e selvagens.

During my residency at Cultivamos Cultura, I plan to design and plant a new grown space, on the site of (and using) a compost tower by a previous artist. I hope to a create a site in which a variety of sensorial responses may be experienced- through sight, smell, taste, and sound and touch. In tandem with this, I will be researching ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response), and exploring potential triggers in the growth and fruition of the garden. I will be combining existing plants and trees at Cultivamos Cultura, together with a palette of flowers grown from seed especially for the project, alongside cuttings from my own garden and the local area, and any found/ archived objects of interest.

Crystal Mallon Kershaw, born 1982 Manchester, UK, is an arts practitioner living in SW Alentejo, Portugal, since 2017. She holds a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (Camberwell College of Arts, UAL) and a BA English Literature (Kings College London) and is a satellite member of Ateneu do Catorze, an artist collective in São Luis, Odemira.
While living in different natural environments, her site-responsive work is led by the local landscape, frequently using seasonal materials of botanical origin, with outcomes – often sculpture or installation – mainly temporal and experiential in essence. Since renovating her own land in Portugal, Crystal’s work is increasingly shifting to the use of live and growing forms using plants, exploring the interplay between cultivated and wild spaces.
