PT// O CINEMA FULGOR é um cinema com raízes móveis, itinerante pela constelação espacial do Baixo Alentejo. Cinema composto e semente, pretende participar na construção de uma ruralidade viva e autónoma, convocar e nutrir as diversas e dispersas comunidades, propondo o cinema enquanto experiência comunal e ecológica.
A Cultivamos Cultura abre espaço para mais uma sessão do Cinema Fulgor, no dia 17 de Novembro, às 20:30hrs, com os filmes “THE SECRET GARDEN (2023)” de Nour Ouayda e “FORAGERS (2022)” de Jumana Manna.

Os habitantes de uma cidade acordam de manhã e descobrem que árvores, plantas e flores nunca antes vistas irromperam repentinamente pelas ruas e praças. Eventos estranhos e misteriosos começam a acontecer enquanto Camelia e Nahla investigam as origens dessas novas e peculiares criaturas.

Foragers retrata os dramas em torno da prática da recolha de plantas selvagens comestíveis na Palestina/Israel com humor irónico e um ritmo meditativo. Filmado nos Montes Golã, na Galileia e em Jerusalém, o filme transita entre a acção, o documentário e as imagens de arquivo para retratar o impacto das leis israelitas de proteção da natureza sobre estes costumes. As restrições proíbem a recolha de ‘akkoub, semelhante à alcachofra, e de za’atar (tomilho), e resultaram em prisões e julgamentos de centenas de pessoas apanhadas a recolher estas plantas nativas. Para os palestinianos, estas leis constituem um véu ecológico para uma legislação que os afasta ainda mais da sua terra, enquanto os representantes do Estado israelita insistem nos seus conhecimentos científicos e no seu dever de proteção. Seguindo as plantas desde a natureza até à cozinha, desde as perseguições entre os apanhadores e a patrulha da natureza até às defesas em tribunal, Foragers capta o amor, a alegria e o conhecimento herdados destas tradições, bem como a sua resistência à lei proibitiva. Ao reformular os termos e os constrangimentos da preservação, o filme levanta questões em torno da política de extinção, nomeadamente quem determina o que é extinto e o que continua a viver.
EN// CINEMA FULGOR is a cinema with mobile roots, a wanderer through the spatial constellations of Baixo Alentejo. Cinema-compost and cinema-seed, it intend to participate in the construction of a living and autonomous rurality, to convoke and nurture diverse and disparate communities, proposing cinema as a communal and ecological experience.

The inhabitants of a town wake up in the morning to find that trees, plants and flowers they have never seen before have suddenly sprung up in the streets and squares. Strange and mysterious events begin to unfold as Camelia and Nahla investigate the origins of these peculiar new creatures.

Foragers portrays the dramas surrounding the practice of gathering wild edible plants in Palestine/Israel with ironic humor and a meditative rhythm. Filmed in the Golan Heights, the Galilee and Jerusalem, the film moves between action, documentary and archive footage to portray the impact of Israeli nature protection laws on these customs. The restrictions prohibit the collection of ‘akkoub, similar to the artichoke, and za’atar (thyme), and have resulted in the arrests and trials of hundreds of people caught collecting these native plants. For Palestinians, these laws constitute an ecological veil for legislation that further alienates them from their land, while representatives of the Israeli state insist on their scientific knowledge and their duty to protect it. Following the plants from the wild to the kitchen, from the chases between the pickers and the nature patrol to the defenses in court, Foragers captures the love, joy and knowledge inherited from these traditions, as well as their resistance to the prohibitive law. By reformulating the terms and constraints of preservation, the film raises questions around the politics of extinction, namely who determines what is extinct and what lives on.
