PT// Esculturas de cerâmica inspiradas nas fotografias de sementes e pólen tiradas sob um microscópio pelo fotógrafo, artista e cientista Rob Kesseler. Essas imagens fascinantes revelam a incrível beleza das sementes e grãos de pólen – de outra forma invisíveis ao olho humano.
Quando vi as fotografias pela primeira vez, soube imediatamente que iria recriar as sementes tridimensionalmente. Então este é o resultado da natureza inspirando primeiro um fotógrafo-artista-cientista, e depois, por sua vez, uma ceramista, a retratá-las em uma escala maior.
É claro que minhas esculturas não são impressões em 3D, mas uma interpretação imaginativa das fotografias. A partir de um certo ponto do processo, larguei a imagem microscópica e tentei desenvolver coerência dentro da própria peça.

EN// Ceramic sculptures were inspired by the photographs of seeds and pollen taken under a microscope by photographer, artist and scientist Rob Kesseler. Those fascinating images reveal the incredible beauty of seeds and pollen grains – otherwise invisible to the human eye. 
When I first saw the photographs I knew immediately that I would recreate the seeds three-dimensionally.  
So this is the result of nature inspiring first a photographer-artist-scientist, and then in turn a ceramist, to portray them on a larger scale.
Of course, my sculptures are not 3D prints, but an imaginative interpretations of the photographs. From a certain point in the process, I let go of the microscopic image and tried to develop coherence within the piece itself.

BIO

Maya Fernandes Kempe (Berlim, 1975) é arte pedagoga e escultora. Estudou filosofia e literatura (NDL) na Universidade de Berlim (FU), e formou-se em Pedagogia da Arte (PFH). É escultora/ ceramista autodidata, e professora de arte desde 2005, tendo exercido enquanto pedagoga artística. É fundadora do Espaço Azul, em Lisboa e co-fundadora do espaço Ateneu do Catorze, em São Luís, onde reside.

Maya Fernandes Kempe (Berlin, 1975) is an art pedagogue and sculptor. She studied philosophy and literature (NDL) at the University of Berlin (FU), and graduated in Art Pedagogy (PFH). She is a self-taught sculptor/ ceramist, and art teacher since 2005, having practiced as an art pedagogue. She is founder of Espaço Azul, in Lisbon and co-founder of the space Ateneu do Catorze, in São Luís, where she is based.
