VAULT OR THE FORGES OF VULCANO

TRÉMULA is a project about the different aspects of the first builder and destroyer of natural life, the volcanoes, and involves different chapters in progress, including performance, video and installation. While constructing the specific conditions, the aim is to bring the user/viewers into a distinctive awareness on environmental issues, putting emphasis on the physical capacities of the human body as a base for deep and transformative reflection.
TRÉMULA begins as a performative video filmed in the volcano of São Miguel Island, Azores. A lush and rich nature that takes the major part of the island, with trees, plants and various animals is in contrast with the area of volcanic rocks on the side of the sea, where no form of life proliferates. The performance is located on this side, relating to the first phase of the formation of life on earth, as magmatic forces, but also feeling the difficulty of living in a context where nature is not a place for a kind survival, as it is happening with the climatic changes caused by human behavior. The performance, then, between real effort and creative improvisation, sought to translate this ambiguous situation.
VAULT OR THE FORGES OF VULCANO
The chapter to investigate in the CULTIVAMOS CULTURA residence will be related to the later moments of volcanic eruption: the destruction that transforms the atmosphere (prior to fertilizing the earth for the new).
This investigation and creation will be based on the performance of Natalia Lis, interpreting in dance the effects and natural relationships of an imagined eruption, the video by Pavel Tavares, creating the atmosphere necessary to generate the sensation of the moment expressed in the chapter, in addition to texts by different authors (and of the artists themselves) who involves the situation with poetic,
mythological or metaphysical airs. What body movements translate this precise moment? What image, framing, lighting and camera movements provide the necessary tone? What texts and sounds really create the imagery that expresses the intention and maintains mystery and open interpretations? They will work trying to answer these questions to create an audiovisual piece for installation.
