Cuidar de tudo tendo como base as moléculas orgânicas ligadas ao carbono é ético ou necessário? Até que ponto pode a arte cuidar de organismos vivos e usá-los ao mesmo tempo enquanto materiais artísticos? Quais são as implicações deste processo e como se pode apresentar? Neste projeto, Daniela Brill Estrada vai explorar o carbono como o elemento químico capaz de ligar moléculas complexas e, portanto, a vida.

Na sequência da sua investigação anterior sobre o carbono e a viagem de cada átomo de carbono, desde a sua criação no cosmos até à ligação de matéria viva ou não viva na terra, ela explora formas de perceção de alianças, reações e coexistência baseadas no carbono, através de desenhos experimentais de tinta à base de carbono, água e papel. Desta vez usando água do rio e do mar, contendo milhões de diferentes microorganismos e formas de vida.

Eles serão considerados como agentes co-criadores dos desenhos e o resultado será um resultado estético de coexistência e colaboração entre os diferentes materiais. A transformação dos organismos aquáticos em diferentes tipos de formas de vida que crescem a partir do desenho explora a complexidade da mutação atómica desde da vida até à morte. Os diferentes elementos éticos e de cuidado serão explorados ao longo das diferentes fases do projeto.

Is caring for everything based on carbon-bound organic-molecules ethical or necessary? How far can art go caring for living organisms and using them at the same time as artistic materials? What are the implications of this and how does this look? In her project, Daniela will explore carbon as the chemical element capable of binding complex molecules, and therefore life.

Following the previous research on carbon and the journey of every carbon atom from its creation in the cosmos to binding living or non-living matter on earth, she explores ways of perceiving carbon-based alliances, reactions and coexistence, through experimental drawings of carbon-based-ink, water and paper. This time using water from the river and from the sea, containing millions of different micro-organisms and life-forms.

They will be regarded as agents that co-create the drawings and the result will be an aesthetic outcome of the coexistence and collaboration of the different materials. The transformation of the water-organisms into different types of life-forms growing from the drawing explores the complexity of life-to-death atomic mutation. The different ethical and elements of care will be explored throughout the different stages of the project.

Daniela Brill Estrada was born in Bogotá, Colombia, her artistic and theoretical work focuses on the ideas of queerness and in-disciplinarity and the wish to eliminate frontiers and boundaries aiming to find a space for the formation of new knowledge. Daniela’s work uses materials from the natural sciences, such as chemical elements in different forms or states of matter to disclose the artist’s theoretical statements about matter and nature. She is the co-organizer of Suratómica, a network of organizations, groups and individuals at an international level that, under the ideas of collaboration and openness of knowledge, propagates scientific and artistic thought.

Daniela Brill Estrada nasceu em Bogotá, Colômbia, e o seu trabalho artístico e teórico foca-se em ideias de queerness e de in-disciplinaridade e no desejo de eliminar fronteiras com o objetivo de encontrar um espaço para a formação de novos conhecimentos. O trabalho de Daniela usa materiais das ciências naturais, como elementos químicos em diferentes formas ou estados da matéria, para divulgar as afirmações teóricas da artista sobre a matéria e a natureza. É co-organizadora da Suratómica, uma rede de organizações, grupos e indivíduos a nível internacional que, sob as ideias de colaboração e abertura do conhecimento, propaga o pensamento científico e artístico.
