Residency by Mark Lipton | July 2019

During this time, he also developed an artist residency, with Hege Tapio and Marta de Menezes, which gave rise to the “Black Gold” project. Inspired by experimental alchemists like Henning Brand. It reports the slow process required to create the condensed liquid of black gold. Moving away from its golden origin, 700 ml of urine were distilled into the dark, chicken-scented liquid. This project was initiated with the aim of discovering amorphous crystals in the urine.
