Observar verdadeiramente algo é prestar homenagem…
Durante o meu tempo na Cultivamos Cultura, irei estudar as plantas e insetos que encontrar, através da observação atenta e do desenho. Desenhar é a minha forma de honrar estas formas de vida — um ato de reverência através do olhar.
Ao mergulhar profundamente no processo de observação e esboço, espero compreender melhor como poderá ser viver como estes seres, seguindo com o traço as formas e estruturas dos seus corpos.
Com recurso a microscópios, explorarei os detalhes ocultos de insetos, plantas e plâncton — indo além do que o olho nu consegue perceber. Quero descobrir e registar estes mundos minúsculos através do desenho.
A minha investigação estender-se-á também à imaginação de como estes organismos poderão co-criar uma natureza futura — moldada pela simbiose, migração e reciprocidade — uma ecologia resiliente e pós-humana. Este trabalho é uma resposta à nossa própria sobrevivência e à sobrevivência da própria natureza.

Yuko Oda (n. 1975, Tóquio, Japão) é uma artista multidisciplinar que trabalha na interseção entre arte, biologia e empatia. Oda é mestre em Belas-Artes pela Rhode Island School of Design e licenciada em Artes Visuais e Filosofia pela Universidade de Duke. Expõe nacional e internacionalmente; os seus trabalhos foram apresentados em locais como Sala 1 – Centro Internazionale d’Arte Contemporanea, SIGGRAPH Asia (Macau, China), Dumbo Arts Festival (Nova Iorque), Calvin-Morris Gallery (NY), Beijing Today Art Museum, Maki Fine Arts (Tóquio), Annemarie Sculpture Garden and Art Center (Maryland), e no Museu da Rhode Island School of Design, entre outros.
Foi artista residente no Vermont Studio Center, Chashama North Residency, Goetemann Residency e Byrdcliffe Artist Residency. Actualmente, leciona no Departamento de Arte e Design da University of Massachusetts Lowell e o seu trabalho é representado pela 13Forest Gallery, em Arlington, Massachusetts.

To really look at something is to pay homage…
During my time at Cultivamos Cultura, I will study the plants and insects I encounter through close observation and drawing. Drawing is my way of honoring these life forms, an act of awe through seeing. By engaging deeply in the process of observing and sketching, I hope to better understand what it might be like to live as these beings, tracing the shape and structure of their forms.
Using microscopes, I’ll explore the hidden details of insects, plants, and plankton, looking beyond what the naked eye can perceive. I want to discover and document these minute worlds through drawing. My research will also extend into imagining how these organisms might co-create a future nature, one shaped by symbiosis, migration, and reciprocity — a resilient, post-human ecology. This work is a response to our own survival and to the survival of nature itself.
