PT// A palavra manifesto é oriunda do latim e começa por significar “tornar óbvio”, derivando depois para “tornar público”, enquanto manifestação, que contém o mesmo radical, inclui o termo ação e, consequentemente, uma dimensão mais performativa. Tanto o manifesto quanto a manifestação implicam três dimensões fundamentais – a crítica, a vontade de mudança e o apresentar de soluções – que se assumem como instâncias imprescindíveis na (sobre)vivência humana. Num momento em que se celebram manifestos (também artísticos) e se organizam manifestações diárias à escala global, estes fenómenos insinuam-se enquanto matéria-prima necessária a uma criação artística que articula o ético e o estético nos mesmos lugares de visualidade.

Manifestos e Manifestações é, assim, um projeto transdisciplinar de criação artística, do coletivo Estrela Decadente, a ser desenvolvido em várias instituições (incluindo membros da Rede Portuguesa de Arte Contemporânea), em diversas zonas do território nacional, que explora o campo de pesquisa das artes visuais na sua inter-relação com as engrenagens sociais e políticas do mundo contemporâneo. Partindo de uma investigação sobre a genealogia de manifestos artísticos e políticos e de uma análise das diversas camadas sígnicas das manifestações enquanto fenómenos sócio-políticos, mas também de sobrecarga visual, serão desenvolvidas criações por um grupo de dez artistas e autores.

EN// The word manifesto comes from Latin and begins by meaning “to make obvious”, later deriving to “make public”, while manifestation, which contains the same radical, includes the term action and, consequently, a more performative dimension. Both the manifesto and the demonstration imply three fundamental dimensions – criticism, the desire for change and the presentation of solutions – which are assumed to be essential instances in human (survival). At a time when manifestos (also artistic) are celebrated and daily demonstrations are organized on a global scale, these phenomena appear as necessary raw material for an artistic creation that articulates the ethical and the aesthetic in the same places of visuality

Manifestos and Manifestations is, therefore, a transdisciplinary project of artistic creation, by the collective Estrela Decadente, to be developed in several institutions (including members of the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network), in different areas of the national territory, which explores the field of research of visual arts in their interrelationship with the social and political gears of the contemporary world. Starting from an investigation into the genealogy of artistic and political manifestos and an analysis of the different sign layers of the manifestations as socio-political phenomena, but also visual overload, creations will be developed by a group of ten artists and authors.

O coletivo artístico Estrela Decadente territorializa o centro de Lisboa desde 2016 com práticas artísticas inscritas pela cultura independente, a auto-organização e o ativismo. As localizações artísticas do coletivo procuram a divergência com a cidade homogénea e financeirizada, constituem-se num aparato medial marcado pela estética urbana do it your self e lo-fi, levantando por essa razão uma topografia provisória e subterrânea. As suas coordenadas são espaços-bunkers e o seu léxico é bélico e comunitário. São localizações temporárias e difíceis de acessar, mas que se pronunciam com chamadas ocasionais à sua participação comunitária. Circulam em espaços específicos de associativismo cultural e político, e sinalizam território próprio congregando estratégias de street art como os posters e o bombing, com publicações independentes periódicas que se atualizam com as questões artísticas, culturais e políticas em curso na sociedade.

The artistic collective Estrela Decadente has been territorializing the center of Lisbon since 2016 with artistic practices inscribed by independent culture, self-organization and activism. The collective’s artistic locations seek divergence with the homogeneous and financialized city, they constitute a medial apparatus marked by the urban aesthetics of it your self and lo-fi, creating for this reason a provisional and underground topography. Its coordinates are bunker spaces and its lexicon is warlike and communal. These are temporary locations that are difficult to access, but which speak out with occasional calls for community participation. They circulate in specific spaces of cultural and political associations, and signal their own territory by bringing together street art strategies such as posters and bombing, with periodic independent publications that update themselves with ongoing artistic, cultural and political issues in society.
