PT// Maro irá desenvolver seu Atlas for Transspecies Relationships, uma simbiose tão íntima como a endossimbiose que faz com que as espécies se transformem e se desenvolvam.
Lichen Timescapes é uma coleção de esculturas vivas. Recolhida em várias viagens, destaca as relações intrigantes e intemporais entre as espécies. As rochas são habitadas por líquenes, organismos complexos que consistem em pelo menos três reinos diferentes – bactérias, fungos e algas. Estas espécies juntam-se numa relação simbiótica, protegendo-se e alimentando-se mutuamente, transformando-se num novo organismo com denominações e qualidades científicas.
Estas relações trans-específicas são lentas, talvez 2 milímetros por ano, dependendo da espécie e do estado. São também crostosas, incrustadas e inseparáveis da rocha multimilenar ou da madeira fossilizada. Este objeto geológico é também afetado pela erosão humana, esculpindo como ênfase as formas liquénicas e as especificidades geológicas do mineral. A escultura também realça o tempo humano nas escalas biológica e geológica, colocando as nossas escalas temporais em perspetiva.

Lichen Timescapes is a collection of living sculptures. Gathered through multiple trips, it highlights the intricate and timeless relationships between species. The rocks are inhabited by lichen, complex organisms consisting of at least three diverse kingdoms – bacteria, fungi, and algae. These species come together in a symbiotic relationship, protecting and feeding each other, becoming one new organism with scientific names and qualities.
These trans-species relationships are slow, maybe 2 millimetres per year, depending on the species and condition. They are also crustose, incrusted and inseparable from multi-million-year-old rock or fossilized wood. This geological object is also impacted by human erosion, sculpting with an emphasis on the lichenous forms and geological specificities of the mineral. The sculpting also highlights human time within biological and geological scales, placing our timescales in perspective.

PT// Maro Pebo é uma artista e historiadora de arte mexicana, especializada nas dimensões culturais das Ciências da Vida. É doutorada em Creative Media (Universidade da Cidade de Hong Kong), e Mestre em Estudos Críticos e de Género (Universidade de Bolonha). O seu trabalho transdisciplinar complementa e transforma a responsabilidade das ciências da vida de pensar sobre a materialidade dos seres vivos.
Maro faz a curadoria de exposições e eventos, atualmente enquanto Concept Developer na Waag Future Lab em Amesterdão. Publicou e apresentou a sua investigação internacionalmente, incluindo na Performance Research, Leonardo, ISEA, EVA, ISCMA, Cornell University, e Media Art Histories. Anteriormente foi professora sénior de Moist Media na Academia DeTao Masters, no Instituto de Artes Visuais de Xangai. O seu trabalho foi apresentado no Ars Electronica, Riga Stradins University Anatomy Museum, no Toronto Design Festival, The Rest Gallery, EUA, no Gerdau Museum em Belo Horizonte, Brasil, Multimedia Center no México e no Lahore Media Arts Festival em Paquistão.
EN// Maro Pebo is an Mexican artist and art historian specialized in the cultural dimensions of the life sciences. Ph.D. in Creative Media (City University of Hong Kong), MA in Critical and Gender Studies (Bologna University). Her transdisciplinary work complements and transforms the life sciences’ responsibility to think about the materiality of the living.
Maro curates exhibitions and events, currently as Concept Developer at the Waag Future Lab in Amsterdam. Has published and presented her research internationally, including at Performance Research, Leonardo, ISEA, EVA, ISCMA, Cornell University, and Media Art Histories. Previously she was senior lecturer of Moist Media at DeTao Masters Academy, Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts. Her works have been displayed at Ars Electronica, Riga Stradins University Anatomy Museum, the Toronto Design Festival, The Rest Gallery, USA, the Gerdau Museum in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Multimedia Center in Mexico and The Lahore Media Arts Festival in Pakistan.
