Cinema composto e semente, pretende participar na construção de uma ruralidade viva e autónoma, convocar e nutrir as diversas e dispersas comunidades, propondo o cinema enquanto experiência comunal e ecológica.

Uma flor intoxicante; um insecto metafórico; o alcance de um desejo através dos séculos. O filme é
uma busca filosófica embebida em cores luminosas e luz cintilante. Tendo plantado e cuidado a bela
tulipa caí profundamente sobre o seu feitiço – uma aflição partilhada por um artista de outro tempo
e lugar. Numa beleza tão luxuriosa e efémera, os nossos caminhos cruzaram-se, partilhando o medo
(uma recordação – uma mosca) da transitoriedade da vida.

Um manuscrito iluminado: as ilustrações retiram-se para a fibra da página: uma luz fugaz dissolve-se
na emulsão do filme: uma história elusiva é revisitada.

LOOKING GLASS INSECTS (2012)
Insectos do Outro Lado do Espelho

O filme retira o seu título do terceiro capítulo de Through the Looking Glass (Alice do Outro Lado
do Espelho) e as ilustrações originais clássicas de Tenniel. Deliciando-se no acto e no jogo de
observação, encontra na história original uma metáfora visual para o processo cinematográfico, e faz
uso de lupas como ilusão óptica – apontando para os instrumentos utilizados tanto por
entomologistas como por cineastas. No entanto, os insectos da história desaparecem, tal como as
observações que aparecem na lupa do filme se dissolvem na escuridão quando inclinadas para
reflectir o mundo “natural” para além do livro.

Delicados fios de energia espiralam e transformam-se em misteriosas células microscópicas de pó
dourado: eis as partículas luminosas do sonho do alquimista. Prima Materia é inspirado pela
assombrosa maravilha de Lucretius: De Rerum Natura. É uma homenagem aos primeiros e
provisórios registos fotográficos, que revelaram a natureza extraordinária dos fenómenos que se
escondem para além do limite da visão humana.

PWDRE SER THE ROT OF STARS (2019)

O filme retrata um encontro com uma substância misteriosa, luminosa e eléctrica. Inspirado
igualmente por relatos medievais de experiências visionárias e pela fotografia do invisível do século
XIX, Pwdre Ser junta a fotografia Kirlian (ou Kirliangrafia) com imagens processadas à mão.
Pwdre Ser é o nome galês de uma substância mítica que tem sido observada por muitos desde 1400.

A história desenrola-se na véspera do Solstício de Verão: no dia em que o limiar entre mundos é
poroso, e um gesto ocioso pode tentar o destino. Inspirado em The Secret Commonwealth (1671), de
Robert Kirk, este trabalho assume a roupagem exterior de um filme sobre a natureza. Mas a
observação cede lugar à ilusão e a superfície cede lugar a águas turvas, cheias de escombros daquelas
que sucumbiram às suas armadilhas (a Senhora de Shalott, Ofélia). Elas permanecem presas; como
advertências ameaçadores da perigosa sedução da beleza e da raiva dos espíritos fugidios que se
ressentem de serem examinados.

EN// CINEMA FULGOR is a cinema with mobile roots, a wanderer through the spatial constellations of Baixo Alentejo. Cinema-compost and cinema-seed, it intends to participate in the construction of a living and autonomous rurality, to convoke and nurture the diverse and disparate communities, proposing cinema as a communal and ecological experience.

Cultivamos Cultura opens space for another session of Cinema Fulgor, on 25th June, at 9pm, with a series of films (OBSERVATIONAL REVERIES) by Charlotte Pryce.

An intoxicating flower; a metaphorical insect; a longing reach across the centuries.
The film is a philosophical search drenched in luminous colors and sparkling light.
Having grown the beautiful tulip I fell deeply under its spell – an affliction shared by an artist from
another time and place. In such luxurious and temporary beauty we crossed paths, sharing fear (a
reminder – a fly) of the transience of life.

A manuscript illuminated: illustrations retreat into the fiber of the page: a fleeting light dissolves into
the emulsion of the film: an elusive story is revisited.

LOOKING GLASS INSECTS

The film takes its title from chapter three of Through the Looking Glass and its classic original
illustrations by Tenniel. Delighting in the act and play of observation, it finds a visual metaphor for
the cinematic process in the antics of the original story, and makes use of magnifying glasses as an
optical pun–pointing to the instruments used by both entomologists and filmmakers alike. Yet the
insects of the story fade away, just as the observations that appear in the film’s magnifying glass
dissolve into darkness when tilted to reflect the “natural” world beyond the book.

Delicate threads of energy spiral and transform into mysterious microscopic cells of golden dust:
these are the luminous particles of the alchemist’s dream. Prima Materia is inspired by the haunting
wonderment of Lucretius: De Rerum Natura. It is an homage to the first, tentative photographic
records that revealed the extraordinary nature of phenomena lurking just beyond the edge of human
vision.

PWDRE SER THE ROT OF STARS

The film depicts an encounter with a mysterious, luminous, electrical substance. Inspired equally by
medieval accounts of visionary experiences and by 19th century photography of the invisible, Pwdre
Ser joins Kirlian photography with hand-processed images.
Pwdre Ser is the Welsh name for a mythical substance that has been observed by many since the
1400’s.

OF THIS BEGUILING MEMBRANE

The story unfolds on the Eve of Midsummer: on the day when the threshold between worlds is
porous, and an idle gesture can tempt fate. Inspired by Robert Kirk’s The Secret Commonwealth
(1671), this work takes the outward form of a nature film. But observation gives way to illusion and
the surface gives way to murky waters strewn with debris of those who have succumbed to its lures
(the Lady of Shalott, Ophelia). They remain trapped; menacing reminders of the dangerous
seduction of beauty, and anger of the elusive spirits who resent being examined.
