Nesta residência, o responsável pela produção audiovisual da Cultivamos Cultura concentrou-se em filmar, editar e desenvolver o material videográfico para os gardens do Ars Electronica, tanto o da Cultivamos Cultura (que contou com a colaboração de Bruno Caracol e Léna Lewis-King)  como o do FEMeeting e do Traveling Plant. A par desta produção, editou o documentário Staying in Touch: post-coronavirus art curating (com Dalila Honorato, Robertina Šebjanič, Karolina Żyniewicz, Isabel Burr Raty e Louise Mackenzie), desenvolveu o documentário Countries in Countries no âmbito do projeto Looking China e as vídeo instalações Ovo Humano (Imaginações Reprodutivas) e Eu, Tu & o Campo ( com Matilde Real e sonorização de Joana Guerra).

Countries in Countries

Sinopse: No ano de 2020 Pavel Tavares, durante o período de quarentena de Covid-19, plantou a sua primeira horta, relembrando-se da sua experiência em Longji, na China. Surpreendentemente, teve a oportunidade de participar no projeto Looking China 2020, onde conheceu a Poli (董子凌) e a realidade dos agricultores deste país, o que o inspirou. Surgiu assim uma bela amizade, rodeada por agricultura e família.

Ovo Humano (Imaginações Reprodutivas)

Sinopse: “Ovum, corona radiata, ooplasma, citoplasma, espongioplasma, hialoplasma, deutoplasma”. Esta é uma narrativa sobre a reprodução humana. Uma narrativa reprodutiva que explora de que forma os óvulos e os espermatozoides surgem enquanto entidades numa história experimental da conceção. Mas nesta instalação de vídeo também surge um zigoto imaginativo, feito de plástico. Esta é a nossa reprodução real, que com o seu nascimento mudou a vida na Terra.

Eu, Tu & o Campo

Sinopse: A presença do outro como sujeito faz parte da nossa experiência do mundo: o outro está presente na forma como nos olha. Aos nos sentimos observados, passamos a sentir que respondemos a outra subjetividade, outra consciência, que se torna presente em nós, nos nossos pensamentos e na nossa liberdade. Para ser Eu preciso de Ti, para nos encontrarmos precisamos do Campo. O campo escolhe o caminho.  A relação nasce do lugar. Perguntamos: qual é o jogo? E o campo responde em sons, movimentos, pormenores de pequenas vidas que cosem a extensão do território. Os detalhes de um são as grandes histórias de outro, brincando entre dois universos que habitam o mesmo espaço. Qual é o jogo? Qual é a dança? O autor é o campo, e nós intérpretes das suas vontades.

In this residency, the head of audiovisual production at Cultivamos Cultura focused on filming, editing and developing the videographic material for the Ars Electronica gardens, of Cultivamos Cultura (with the collaboration of Bruno Caracol and Léna Lewis-King) and FEMeeting and Traveling Plant. Along with this production, he edited the documentary Staying in Touch: post-coronavirus art curating (with Dalila Honorato, Robertina Šebjanič, Karolina Żyniewicz, Isabel Burr Raty, and Louise Mackenzie), developed the documentary Countries in Countries within the Looking China project, and the video installations Human Egg (Reproductive Imaginations) and Me, You & the Field (with Matilde Real and sound by Joana Guerra).

Synopsis: In the year 2020 Pavel Tavares, during the quarantine of Covid-19, makes his first garden remembering his experience in Longji, China. Surprisingly, he have the opportunity to participate in Looking China 2020, where he meets Poli (董子凌) and another reality of farmers in that country, which inspires him. A beautiful friendship is born, surrounded by farming and family.

Human Egg (Reproductive Imaginations)

Synopsis: “Ovum, corona radiata, ooplasm, cytoplasm, spongioplasm, hyaloplasm, deutoplasm.” This is a narration about human reproduction with natural and industrial elements. A reproductive narrative that explore a different way in which egg and sperm cells emerge as entities in a experimental story of conception. But also: Pollution, contamination: we create plastic, it is our real reproduction that born and change life on Earth. An imaginative zygote in a video installation. 

Me, You & the Field

Synopsis: The presence of the other as subject is part of our experience of the world: the other is present in the way it looks at us. When we feel observed, we begin to feel that we respond to another subjectivity, another consciousness, which becomes present in us, in our thoughts and in our freedom. To be me I need You, to find ourselves we need the Field. The field chooses the path. The relationship is born from the place. We ask: what is the game? And the field responds in sounds, movements, details of small lives that sew the extension of the territory. The details of one are the great stories of another, playing between two universes that inhabit the same space. What is the game? What is the dance? The author is the field, and we interpret his wishes.

BIO | Pavel Tavares é um artista de vídeo e cineasta brasileiro. Ele estudou Design of Image and Sound na Universit of Buenos Aires. Começou como professor de Projeto Audiovisual na mesma universidade. Recebeu uma bolsa de estudo como arquivista na mesma instituição. Tem uma pós-graduação em Cinema pela University Torquato Ditella. Foi selecionado para a Summer School de Talents BAFICI, VGKI, para o programa Looking China, a Bienal Young Art, na Argentina, e ganhou uma bolsa de estudo para integrar o seminário Flaherty, em Nova Iorque. O seu trabalho tem sido apresentado internacionalmente em exposições, festivais e artigos. Foram-lhe atribuídos prémios como a melhor curta-metragem, o melhor vídeo experimental e a melhor fotografia. Atualmente é responsável pelo arquivo e produção audiovisual da associação Cultivamos Cultura.

Pavel Tavares is a Brazilian filmmaker and video artist. He studied Design of Image and Sound at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). He began as a teacher of Audiovisual Project in the same university, lecturing documentary. He received a scholarship as an audiovisual archivist in the same institution. He holds a postgraduate diploma in Cinema from the University Torquato Ditella (UTDT). He was selected for the Talents BAFICI, VGKI summer school, Looking China Program, the Young Art Bienal (Argentina) and won a scholarship to be Fellow in the Flaherty Seminar (NY, USA). His work has been presented internationally in exhibitions, festivals and articles. He has won prizes like best short movie, best experimental video and best photography. He is currently the audiovisual and archivist responsible for the contemporary art association Cultivamos Cultura.
