Andy Gracie (UK-ES)
Andy Gracie (b. 1967) is an artist currently working on examinations of the relationship between art and science. By utilizing scientific procedures and subjects within an artistic practice Gracie aims to reveal how metaphor, ambiguity and poetry can be extracted from the rigorous pursuit of truth. His main scientific interests are in astrobiology and the robotic exploration of space, and these are the fields he employs to frame his work.
Currently Gracie is an invited visiting researcher at Biofilia in the University of Aalto and there he is continuing the development of his ongoing project Drosophila titanus in which Gracie aims to breed a species of fruit fly theoretically capable of surviving on Saturn’s moon Titan. He is also investigating the practice of growing drosophila organs in vitro and comparing this practice to the notion of simulation.
