PT// Como continuação da sua investigação centrada no repensar no ciclo de vida de materiais e objetos, esta residência artística tem como objetivo explorar o impacto que materiais e objetos têm sobre temas como “memória” e “identidade”.
Ao repensar um ciclo de vida, o conceito de “waste” é naturalmente posto em causa através da imaginação de uma nova funcionalidade, mas neste processo de “nova vida” a memória da anterior não é questionada, mas sim celebrada. Assim, uma das questões centrais para esta residência encontra-se no criar uma identidade, sem pôr em causa uma antiga, tal como celebrar um ciclo de mudança. Para tal, o objeto de estudo principal da residência encontra-se em objetos/materiais com um passado diverso de funcionalidades aceites no espaço, seja este na localidade de São Luís, como no espaço de residência da Cultivamos Cultura.
EN// As a continuation of her research centred on rethinking the life cycle of materials and objects, this artist residency aims to explore the impact that materials and objects have on themes such as “memory” and “identity”.
When rethinking a life cycle, the concept of “waste” is naturally called into question by imagining a new functionality. Still, in this process of “new life” the memory of the previous one is not questioned but celebrated. Thus, one of the central issues for this residence lies in creating an identity without jeopardising an old one, such as celebrating a cycle of change. To this end, the residency’s main object of study is found in objects/materials with a diverse past of accepted functionalities in the space, be it in the town of São Luís or in the Cultivamos Cultura residency space.

Sofia Mordido Aires (1999, Beja) é uma artista e designer portuguesa, natural de Vila Nova de Milfontes, Licenciada em Escultura pela Faculdade de Belas Artes, da Universidade de Lisboa, onde atualmente frequenta o Mestrado em Design para a Sustentabilidade.
Desenvolve um corpo trabalho variado, explorando maioritariamente os temas de identidade, memória, tal como a ponte entre o privado e o publico, através da Ourivesaria (nível 4 QRQ – António Arroio), Medalhística, Cerâmica, Instalações e de Design de Serviços e de Produto.
Sofia Mordido Aires (1999, Beja) is a Portuguese artist and designer, born in Vila Nova de Milfontes, with a degree in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon, where she is currently studying for a Masters in Design for Sustainability.
She develops a varied body of work, mostly exploring the themes of identity, and memory, as well as the bridge between the private and the public, through jewellery (level 4 QRQ – António Arroio), medals, ceramics, installations and service and products design.
