In memory of the itinerant cinema that used to be shown in the yard of CULTIVAMOS CULTURA when it was the Simões family’s farm house we fill the thursday’s nights of August with old movies again!

The radio girl, 1944.

Cipriano Lopes and D.Rosa Gonçalves are shopkeepers in the same street and hate each other, but their children are deeply in love and they both love music. To annoy D Rosa, Cipriano Lopes starts a radio , where his daughter would showcase her musicals value, thanks to her boyfriend songwriter talent.

The girl next door, 1945.

Morality teacher Plácido Mesquita goes to Lisbon to visit and save his nephew Eduardo from a life of vice. He finds Eduardo split in between the love for the girl next door, Mariana and his affair with Isabel Moreira, a bold and tenacious entertainer. The turmoil is set in the building when Saraiva, his neighbor and Jerónimo the doorman get mix with the love triangle dragging Plácido in and changing his main goal.

Baltazar Esteves, “Bacalau’s Esteves” a self made man, made his fortune selling bacalau, chickpeas and potatoes.   He is married to Capitulina and they have a son and a daughter. His son is a poet, his daughter manage to marry viscount. Baltazar is also the proud owner of several buildings scattered around Lisbon, one of in Arroios, where Alzira de Menezes lives, known to be a lunatic. Alzira de Meneses is as awkward as stunning, and all men fall head over heels for her. And that’s exactly what will happen to Baltazar, his son and his son in law. To add up to the confusion and mess, D. Perpétua, the neighborhood manicure, nosy and busybody; Aniceto Abranches, a romantic solicitor; her dad, a madcap; her mother, half insane, half in love; several servants and a monkey that gets enrage every time it rains.

A group of friends, who only cares about the good things in life, is bribe to steal some art works from a Lisbon Museum. An easy job, they think, but nothing will turn out as planned…

Dying to get home, 1996.

Manuel Espírito Santo, is a Portuguese emigrant living in Amsterdam for 30 years, when he dies suddenly run over by a bike. Manuel doesn’t understand fully want has happened and he will have a hard time believing he his now a ghost, when he wakes up in a Dutch cemetery. In a casual conversation with a Chinese ghost, his next grave neighbor he realizes he will only have peace once is buried in his homeland.
